An Amazing And Challenging Time
But, don’t wait until the end of your wedding planning to start working on your “Great Getaway.” Start thinking early about where you’d both like to go and what you want to do while your away! Italy? France? Bahamas? Canada? Mexico? With this in mind let’s start thinking about a timeline for your Honeymoon so you are ready to go on your trip in plenty of time.
Honeymoon Planning
When planning your honeymoon, it’s best to plan ahead as much as possible so everything is taken care of. Here’s a list of some quick tips and a time-line to help you decide when to start planning and the things you need taken care of in advance of the honeymoon.
This is not an extensive list but it will help guide you in the basics of planning your honeymoon.
Great Getaway Destination?
The first step is, of course, deciding on your destination. After that you’ll need to read up on the destination to find out if you need a rental car or extra money for cab fare or other modes of transportation available in the area. Your destination should be decided on about 6 to 9 months prior to departure. This is to ensure that you have everything ready for the big day and you may receive discounts for booking early.
Immunization?
This is also a good time to check out immunization requirements for specific destinations. Planning ahead will give you plenty of time to get this taken care of if you’re not up to date on those.
6 Months Before:
Your Destination should be selected. Start booking flights, hotel accommodations, modes of transportation and apply for a passport if you don’t already have one.
Start planning your itinerary.
3 Months Before:
Make sure your passports/visas are up to date and in order. This isn’t something you want to put off until the last minute.
Make reservations for tours, museums, and dinners. Any special attractions should be booked well in advance. (something to that effect) This info can also be included in the 2 months prior.
Check into immunization requirements for the destination you’ve chosen and start making plans to get those shots up to date if needed.
2 Months Before:
Start checking out the local amenities at your destination; restaurants, attractions, shopping facilities, etc.
Finalize your itinerary.
1 Month Before:
Start a packing list of things you need to take with you.
Check into the use of traveler’s cheques and credit cards for your destination.
2 Weeks Before:
Confirm all reservations.
Make photocopies of all your important documents.
Get documents in order with your itinerary.
1 Week Before:
Get prescriptions filled.
Double check your itinerary and documents.
Start packing.
2 – 3 Days Before:
Reconfirm all reservations, just to be sure. You don’t want to get there and find there’s been a last minute mistake.
Make sure your luggage is packed properly.
Make sure your itinerary and important documents are in order and easily accessible. Leave a copy with a family member or close friend.
Make sure your camera or Phone has plenty of space on it for photos!
Have an amazing time and take great photos – share your camera with other newlyweds and get them to take photos of you both.
