How did you meet?
We met at an informational interview at Anson’s law firm in Irvine, CA when I was in my third year of law school. I had researched the firm’s attorneys on their website before going in for the interview and seen that Anson had obtained his LL.M. (Masters in Law) from the University of Miami, FL, which I had planned on attending. I asked if I could meet with him during the meeting to ask about the program, and the managing partner brought him in. Anson told me that if I was serious about being an estate planning attorney I must get my LL.M. from UM. So I went! The next time we met was when I was back home visiting during winter break and then two weeks later at the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning conference in Orlando. We were inseparable thereafter! I finished my second semester in Miami, graduated, and came back home to Anson.
How long did you plan the wedding after the proposal?
We got engaged in February, and married in June the next year. I think we were planning the whole time! The day after we became engaged my mom asked if we’d picked a date yet, and up until maybe two days before the wedding we were fine tuning our day-off schedule. So about 14 months of planning, which was perfect as we’re both busy and having a long while to plan resulted in less stress and more fun along the way.
The top 3 challenges/difficulties of planning the wedding.
The top three challenges were finding a gluten free wedding cake (we tried so many bad cakes, but we loved the one we eventually found!), picking all of the songs (who knew so many songs had to be chosen), and trying to guess whether or not it would rain at our completely outdoor wedding (it did not!).
The top 3 most fun/easiest parts of planning the wedding.
The most fun was planning our wedding together! We made every decision together and we both loved every aspect of how those mutual choices came together. We are both attorneys and excel at researching – it made finding our vendors very easy (other than the trick of finding a great gluten free wedding cake, though we eventually prevailed!), and we loved each vendor we had the chance to work with. Our venue came with a fantastic caterer, which was great as it was one less decision to have to make. Another aspect that made planning easy was that Anson created an Excel with all of our decisions (vendors, prices, payment dates, things left to do), so we always knew where we were in the planning process.
What fun/unique feature of your wedding made you the proudest?
We love that our love really showed at our wedding! We spent weeks working on the actual ceremony for our officiant and on our vows, and the sentiments of love really carried over to our guests. The whole day felt magical and we couldn’t have wished for anything better.
If you had it to do over, what would you change, add or do differently?
Nothing, really!
